Visit of National Defence College Course Delegation to MIER

The Malaysia Institute of Economic Research (MIER) recently received a delegation from the National Defence College (India) and the First Secretary of the High Commission of India. Representing the delegation were Miss Sushma, First Secretary of the High Commission of India and Mr Priyank Bharti, Senior Directing Staff (Civil Services) who were graciously received by Dr Hezri Adnan, Executive Director of MIER. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint the officers of the course with the economic, socio-political, and foreign policy strategies of the country as part of their national and international exposure to the course curriculum.

The body of the visit was a sharing session on the current economic climate of Malaysia, led by MIER’s Senior Research Fellow, Dr Shankaran Nambiar. The sharing session was met with an enthusiastic discourse from the delegation on contemporary economic topics affecting Malaysia and India. The exchange gave the delegation insight on current economic efforts to brave the pandemic-fueled storm and the expected future state of the country’s economy based on the Twelfth Malaysia Plan and its corresponding policy enablers. Capping off the NDC delegation visit was exchanging mementoes, signifying the flourishing Track-II diplomacy between the two countries.
