Policy Roundtable on The Future of Pensions and Social Protection in Malaysia
The Malaysian pensions system underwent significant structural change during the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly due to the withdrawals from pension accounts worth more than RM145 billion. This has left an imbalance in the system, with millions of people without adequate pension coverage and millions more without any pension cover. At the same time, Malaysia’s ageing population will reach the “aged society” definition within a decade or so.
